Airdrie United 0 Partick Thistle 1
Too little too late should be Partick's club motto after the relegated Jags followed last week's win over Clyde with another at Airdrie, their first at the Diamonds expense since 1983.
The winning goal came after only seven minutes when Leigh Hinds latched on to a hopeful long ball from Jean-Yves Anis and held off a couple of weak tackles before firing in a low shot which veteran keeper Mark McGeown might well have stopped on another occasion.
McGeown partly made up for it in the 20th minute with a superb reflex save to deny Darren Brady.
Partick went even closer to extending their lead two minutes before half-time when another long clearance found striker Stephen McConalogue who controlled the ball and then tried a dipping half-volley which beat the keeper but dropped just the wrong side of the cross bar.
Airdrie finally began to wake up early in the second half, and after 59 minutes a low free-kick was narrowly missed by William McLaren and everyone else inside the penalty area. Moments later a deflected cross from Alan Gow almost picked out McLaren again.
Gow's set pieces were causing plenty of problems, and former Partick player Martin Hardie wasted a golden opportunity in the 73rd minute when he totally mis-timed his jump as he went for a free header inside the six-yard box.
Frenchman Jerome Vareille offered another option as Airdrie continued to seek the equaliser, and when defender Adrian Madaschi was short with a headed pass-back, goalkeeper Kenny Arthur had to clean up the mess after Vareille and fellow substitute Stephen McKeown attempted to capitalise on his mistake.
