Brechin earned a valuable point in their fight to beat the drop with a 0-0 draw against Airdrie Utd.

However, the game did little to whet the appetite with few chances over the 90 minutes.

In a dull first half, the nearest City came to scoring was in the 17th minute when a Scott Walker header went narrowly wide, while the Diamonds had a chance a minute later when a Brian McPhee shot skimmed the bar.

Both teams put in plenty of effort after the break but found goal-scoring chances hard to come by, although Stephen McDougall and William McLaren both went close for the Diamonds and an Ally Mitchell shot which sailed over the bar was City's best effort.

The hosts, however, were unlucky to be denied a penalty with just five minutes remaining when substitute Chris Geddes appeared to be pulled in the box by Airdrie centre-back Stephen McKenna, but referee Eddie Smith waved City claims aside.
